2015 VPhA Educational Recap

Below you will find a summary of the live and homestudy CE VPhA offered throughout the 2015 calendar year.  This list does NOT include a variety of programs offered via the VPhA local associations that were accredited by another provider of CE.

VPhA offered 73 hours of CE for pharmacists and 56.5 hours of CE for pharmacy technicians in 2015

LIVE PROGRAMS (60 hours of CE for pharmacists and 45 hours of CE for pharmacy technicians)

VPhA Midyear Conference - February 21-22 (Roanoke)
10.5 hours of CE for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians

  • The VPhA Midyear Conference highlighted opportunities for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians across all practice settings can have a positive impact on the various quality measures that everyone in healthcare is being measured on. Whether these measures were hospital quality standards, Medicare Part D Star Ratings, or even physician meaningful use standards, attendees learned that they all play a vital role in positively affecting quality measures.

Engaging and Supervising Students: A Workshop for Preceptors in 2013-2015
- February 20 (Roanoke) & March 13 (Falls Church)
4 hours of CE for pharmacists

  • This free program for preceptors was presented and sponsored by all schools of pharmacy in Virginia: Appalachian College of Pharmacy, Hampton University, Shenandoah University, and Virginia Commonwealth University.  This program was hosted on February 20th in Roanoke and March 13th in Falls Church.

CBERS 2015: Public Health Emergency Preparedness for Pharmacy Professionals - February through March (14 sites in Virginia)
2 hours of CE for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians

15th Annual Regional Rally Law Update - Mid-April through End of May (16 sites in Virginia)
2 hours of CE for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians

  • VPhA Executive Director Tim Musselman highlighted the activities of the 2015 Virginia General Assembly, Virginia Board of Pharmacy, and other regulatory agencies in Virginia and also noted important federal updates.  This program was offered at 16 sites across the Commonwealth.

VPhA 134th Annual Convention - July 26-29 (Williamsburg)
18.5 hours of CE for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians

  • The VPhA Annual Convention provided attendees with a variety of topics ranging from clinical updates on respiratory conditions and immunizations to discussions on provider status and implementation strategies to increase Naloxone access in pharmacies.

2015 OSHA Update - Live Training Webinar - September-October
1 hour of CE for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians

  • VPhA again partnered with the Tennessee Pharmacists Research and Education Foundation (TPREF) to offer a 1 hour  webinar that met all of OSHA’s training requirements, including the live component.

Prescription Drug Abuse Seminar
- November 7 (Richmond)
6 hours of CE for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians

  • The VPhA Research & Education Foundation hosted a day-long "Prescription Drug Abuse Seminar" that featured educational sessions geared towards all healthcare professionals as we seek to work together as a healthcare team to address the prescription drug abuse epidemic.

Diabetes: Don’t Sugar Coat It 
- November 14 (Richmond)
4 hours of CE for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians

  • VPhA partnered with the Richmond Pharmacists Association to offer 4 hours of diabetes education presented by the VCU Community Pharmacy Residency Program.
  • This program is available for 2.5 hours of homestudy CE credit.  Click here to access.


The Medication Safety Challenge: Are You Up For It?
- November 17
1 hour of CE for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians

  • VPhA partnered with the VHQC for the first in a series of medication safety webinars. During the kick-off webinar, our guest speaker was Rear Admiral (RADM) Pamela Schweitzer, PharmD, BCACP, Assistant Surgeon General, 10th Chief Professional Officer (CPO) of Pharmacy for the U.S. Public Health Service.


Patient & Family-Centered Care: An Interprofessional Approach Conference
- November 20-21 (Glen Allen)
10+ hours of CE for pharmacists

  • The Virginia Nurses Association's (VNA) one and a half day Fall Conference highlighted best practices for interprofessional collaboration  with nurses, physicians, pharmacists, administrators, educators, and other members of the healthcare team. VPhA, along with the Medical Society of Virginia and the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association partnerned with VNA to present this conference.

 

HOMESTUDY PROGRAMS (13 hours of CE for pharmacists and 11.5 hours of CE for pharmacy technicians)

VPhA, through an educational grant provided by the VPhA Research and Education Foundation, continues to add to our catalog of online continuing education for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. (Some of these programs were highlighted above)
